Fuel Consumption Converter is a free online tool that converts fuel economy and consumption figures between four commonly used units: liters per 100 kilometers (L/100km), kilometers per liter (km/L), miles per gallon US (MPG US), and miles per gallon UK (MPG UK). This tool helps drivers, fleet managers, and automotive enthusiasts compare vehicle efficiency across different measurement systems used worldwide. Fuel consumption is expressed differently in different regions. Europe and many other countries use L/100km (lower is better), where a typical efficient car uses 5-7 L/100km. Japan and some Asian countries use km/L (higher is better). The United States uses MPG with US gallons, while the United Kingdom uses MPG with Imperial gallons. Because a UK gallon is about 20% larger than a US gallon, the same vehicle will show a higher MPG number in the UK than in the US. Importantly, fuel consumption conversions are inversely proportional. L/100km and MPG have an inverse relationship: as one goes up, the other goes down. This means you cannot simply multiply by a fixed factor. This converter handles these inverse calculations correctly. All processing runs in your browser.
L/100km to MPG (US): MPG = 235.215 / (L/100km) L/100km to MPG (UK): MPG = 282.481 / (L/100km) L/100km to km/L: km/L = 100 / (L/100km) MPG (US) to L/100km: L/100km = 235.215 / MPG MPG (UK) to L/100km: L/100km = 282.481 / MPG Examples: 8 L/100km = 12.5 km/L = 29.4 MPG (US) = 35.3 MPG (UK) 30 MPG (US) = 7.84 L/100km = 12.75 km/L
